How to read this table
A recall campaign is a defect the manufacturer or NHTSA found serious enough to fix for free. Counting campaigns per model year lets models with different year ranges be compared. Owner complaints are not ranked because totals grow with sales volume; the last column shows what owners report most, which tells an inspector where to look.

Frequently asked questions
Which used SUVs have the fewest recalls?
On this page, the Lexus RX 350 averages the fewest NHTSA recall campaigns per model year among the SUVs we track. Recalls are one signal; always check the exact VIN.
Why not rank by owner complaints?
Complaint totals grow with the number of vehicles sold, so a best-seller can look worse than a rare model. We show recalls per model year and the component owners report most.
Does a recall mean a car is unsafe to buy?
Not by itself. A recall repaired by a franchised dealer fixes the problem at no cost. The risk is an open recall that was never done.
